Charity Recipient

At WSL, giving back is at the heart of what we do. Each year, we proudly select one worthy civic or charitable organization in Southwest Michigan to partner with and help raise funds in a way that aligns with their mission and goals. While we love to host our much-loved Charity Ball, we work closely with each organization to plan fundraising efforts that best support their needs — whether that’s a special event, campaign, or creative collaboration.

How It Works
Every March, two local organizations are invited to present their mission, needs, and goals to our membership. After both presentations, our members cast their votes to select the primary recipient for the year.

The top-voted organization receives financial support through a fundraising event or initiative planned in collaboration with WSL, along with possible additional volunteer assistance or service projects tailored to their mission.

The second organization is supported through hands-on service projects and volunteer work by WSL members throughout the year.

From supporting the unending generosity of the local soup kitchen, to funding a room of glorious new windows for a beloved nature center, to recruiting residents to keep Lake Michigan clean — every day, all around Berrien County, the difference made by WSL is seen and felt by people of all ages.

Why We Do It
This program allows us to make a meaningful, lasting impact on causes that matter in our community while building strong, lasting partnerships. It’s an opportunity for our members to learn about the incredible work happening in Southwest Michigan and to lend our time, talents, and resources where they’re most needed.

Each year brings a new partnership, new projects, and new stories of generosity — and we are honored to be a part of them.
